How Do You Cure Your Cannabis?

Curing your cannabis properly is crucial to ensure the best quality and potency. Here’s a concise guide on how to cure your cannabis:

Step 1: Prepare Your Tools

  • Airtight containers (mason jars are recommended)
  • 2-way humidity control packs (58% RH)
  • Mini hygrometers (optional)

Step 2: Transfer Buds to Jars

Once your buds have dried and the stems snap, place the trimmed flowers into airtight containers. This allows the internal moisture to even out with the external dryness.

Step 3: Add Humidity Packs

Place a 2-way humidity control pack inside each jar. These packs help maintain the ideal relative humidity (RH) of 55% to 60% inside the container.

Step 4: Burp Your Jars

For the first two weeks, burp your jars twice daily for at least 5 minutes. This means opening the jars to let the humid air out and fresh air in. If using mini hygrometers, monitor the RH:

  • If RH is above 65%, burp more frequently.
  • If RH is below 55%, reduce burping frequency.

Step 5: Monitor and Adjust

Continue burping your jars daily. As the curing progresses, the RH should stabilize between 55% to 60%.

Step 6: Determine When Curing is Complete

Curing usually takes 2 to 4 weeks. It's complete when:

  1. The hygrometer shows a stable RH of 55% to 62% for five consecutive days.
  2. The buds pass the "smoke test." Sample a small nug weekly until you are satisfied with the flavor and smoothness.

Note: If you plan to extract or make edibles, curing for at least one week is recommended to allow cannabinoids to mature.
