How Do You Manifold Hemp Plants?

Manifolding hemp plants is a structured training technique that promotes even growth and maximizes bud production. Here's a concise guide to help you get started:

Step 1: Prepare the Pots

Before planting or transplanting, punch 8 evenly spaced holes around the edges of your fabric pot. This improves root aeration and prevents root circling, leading to stronger plants.

Step 2: Topping #1

Once your seedling shows the 5th node, top it above the 3rd node and remove the 1st set of leaves and growth sites. This initial topping sets the foundation for symmetrical growth.

Step 3: Training #1

7 to 14 days after the first topping, tie the 4 new shoots down in a cross shape using anchor stakes and garden ties. Ensure the shoots are nearly horizontal.

Step 4: Topping #2 & Pruning

10 to 14 days after the initial training, top each of the 4 main branches again at the last bud site, leaving 4 to 6 nodes per branch. Remove weaker growth sites and any old leaves not collecting light.

Step 5: Flowering & Training #2

1 to 2 weeks after the last topping and defoliation, the plant is ready to flower. Continue using LST clips and garden ties to widen the canopy and optimize light exposure.

Step 6: Final Defoliation Before Flower

After week 3 of flowering, perform a final defoliation to remove lower leaves not catching light and those blocking airflow. This helps prevent mold and ensures the plant focuses on bud development.

Step 7: Pre-Harvest Defoliation

1 to 2 weeks before harvest, remove all small, yellowing leaves and those blocking airflow. This makes the harvest process easier and ensures the plant puts energy into the buds.
