How Do You Mainline Hemp Plants?

Mainlining hemp plants is an advanced training technique that promotes uniform growth and maximizes bud production. Here's a concise guide to get you started:

Step 1: Prepare the Pots

Before planting or transplanting, punch 8 evenly spaced holes around the edges of your fabric pot. This improves root aeration and prevents root circling, leading to stronger plants.

Step 2: Topping #1

Once your seedling shows the 5th node, top it above the 3rd node and remove all growth sites and leaves on the 1st and 2nd nodes. This initial topping sets the foundation for symmetrical growth.

Step 3: Topping #2 & Training #1

10 to 15 days after the first topping, top each new growth site above the 1st node. Train the branches to the side using anchor stakes and garden ties, promoting even growth.

Step 4: Last Topping (#3) & Training #2

Another 10 to 15 days later, top each branch again and train them to the sides. This step further enhances the plant's symmetrical structure.

Step 5: Defoliation & Training #3

5 to 10 days after the third topping, remove yellowing leaves and those blocking airflow. Train branches to the sides to maintain a low profile and improve light exposure.

Step 6: Final Defoliation

After 3 weeks of flowering, perform a final defoliation to remove lower leaves, improving airflow and light penetration. This step helps prevent mold and ensures the plant focuses energy on bud development.
