How to Transplant Young Weed Plants

Step 1: Fill Your BudPots® With Soil

Start by filling your BudPots with your chosen growing medium. Fill the pot with soil until it reaches just below the grommet level. Thanks to the structural metal ring at the top, BudPots maintain their shape, preventing any spillage of soil.

Step 2: Make a Hole in the Center

Create a hole in the soil that's the same size as your BudCups. Begin at the center and gently pull the soil to the sides with your hands until the hole is adequately sized. Your seedling is now ready for transplanting.

Step 3: Pop Your Rootball Out

Remove your young plants from their containers by pushing the bottom of the BudCups with your finger until the entire root ball comes out. As you do this, gently pull on the plant's stem to check if it can support the root ball. If not, carefully lift the plant from the sides of the root ball.

Before transplanting, ensure the bottom plate of the BudCups is removed if it's still attached to the roots.

Step 4: Transplant Your Plants

Place the root ball inside the hole you made, then gently shake your BudPots to allow the soil to settle around the root ball. Make sure the topsoil is level but avoid pressing down on it, as this can hinder root growth. A gentle shake is sufficient.

Step 5: Water Your Media to Runoff

Water your soil slowly with dechlorinated tap water or RO/distilled water with vegetative stage fertilizer until you see runoff from the bottom, which typically takes 60 to 120 seconds. This promotes root growth in all directions as they seek water.

Beware: Since you will be watering until runoff, avoid watering again until your BudPots feel almost dry. This encourages roots to grow in search of remaining moisture. Overwatering can lead to root rot and small root growth, so always wait for a full dry back before watering again.
