How Do You Low-Stress Train Autoflowers?
Low-stress training (LST) is a great way to enhance the growth and yield of your autoflowering cannabis plants. Here's a concise guide to get you started:
Step 1: Prepare the Pots
Before planting your seed or transplanting your seedling, punch 8 evenly spaced holes around the edges of your fabric pot. This allows for better root aeration and prevents root circling.
Tip: Transplant your seedling 2 inches away from the edge of the pot for a larger main stalk.
Step 2: Tie Down the Seedling
Once the seedling shows the 5th node, insert anchor stakes 1 inch behind and 1 inch in front of the seedling at a 45-degree angle. Use garden ties to gently pull the plant down, securing the base and the area between the 3rd and 4th nodes.
Step 3: Continue Tying Down
As the plant grows, insert new anchor stakes every 2 to 3 inches and tie the plant down every 7 to 10 days until it reaches the other side of the pot. This encourages side branches to grow, creating a bushier plant.
Step 4: Optional - Topping, Defoliating, & Flowering
- Topping: For outdoor plants, you can top them before late July to promote bushier growth.
- Defoliating: Remove leaves that block light from new growth sites and prune non-dominant shoots to focus energy on stronger branches.
- Flipping to Flower: For indoor plants, you can flip to the flowering stage once the plant is ready.
Step 5: Use LST Clips (Optional)
Once the plant grows beyond the edges of the pot, use LST clips to bend branches until the second week of flowering. This helps manage the plant's structure and light exposure.
